The last few days
April, 2015
As I awoke from surgery, how silly that “work thoughts” were streaming through my mind. HA! Then the pain…it seemed like the nurse was asking me every 30 seconds, “what is It now”. It hung out at a 7-8/10 for a while, then started to subside. We gradually got ready for the drive home and she recommended valium. What a great idea! Pain meds, anti-nausea, and valium, so I just wouldn’t care. I found out later that they told Scott to check my chest every once in a while to make sure I was breathing … what a treat for him.
Dr. Wagner came in to tell me what he did. He said he “pulled out all his tricks” which meant some bone grafting where he removed the cyst and the microfracture to help my joint surface heal. He seemed very happy that there was “lots of good blood”. So, I’ll be happy with him. What it does mean is that I will definitely be on crutches, toe-touch weight-bearing for 6 weeks.
The drive home was absolutely beautiful…at least the occasional moments where I awoke to see and feel the sun streaming through my window, keeping me warm. Not to mention the non-stop beauty of traveling over the cascades. In my lifetime, I will never tire of it.
